Falling in Love is Not Enough

When couples fall in love, they share with each other their most intimate thoughts and secrets.  This creates an intense bond of trust which serves as a solid foundation for their long-term relationship. 

But living together, raising children, working, dealing with finances often stresses this bond.  The result is that couples begin to argue with each other.  These arguments often begin over minor issues.  If not repaired, partners begin to mistrust each other.  They begin to doubt their partner’s love.  More serious arguments, anger, hurt, sexual withdrawal, and emotional withdrawal are a preview to the physical disengagement of a divorce.

Falling In Love Is Not Enough is about re-capturing the closeness and intimacy which couples had when they first fell in love.  It takes the view that couples want to be best friends with each other.  Using attachment theory, it shows how that friendship is threatened.  The book offers concrete ways of getting closer.
